Richard

Richard joined Rio in 2021 as a Senior Architect. He is an experienced practitioner, having been in practice for over 25 years and has worked throughout the UK and internationally. He has had a diverse workload throughout his career, spanning various sectors and project scales, and has undertaken multiple roles. He is equally comfortable within the early concept design stages, as with detail design and construction. Richard believes that being able to work simultaneously at different stages of projects deepens his understanding of context and often provides a synergy – ultimately improving overall designs.

He takes pleasure in working with diverse industry software and media while steadfastly advocating hand sketching as a foundational tool for developing and analysing design proposals. Richard also has a strong passion for model making, as its three-dimensional attributes enhance and elevate engagement levels for all parties.

He is keen to further his design knowledge and particularly enthusiastic about sharing and nurturing the development of younger colleagues.
