Planning secured for Friary House, Cardiff
Our clients Colico Living and Topland Group recently received approval for their PBSA development in Cardiff.
Located on Greyfriars Road, the plans for the 28-storey building include 585 student beds, in a dynamic mix of studio, en-suite and one-bed apartments. Alongside student apartments, the building will include amenities, a roof garden and commercial space on the ground floor.
Our role as Executive Architect involved supporting the team with design development, specifically the façade. Working closely with the incumbent design team, including ECE Westworks and the Local Planning Authority, we engaged in an intense period of design development, testing and exploring various options that were responsive to the context and which had presence and gravitas on the city skyline.
The development’s commercial aspects were reviewed, along with the considerations of heritage and placemaking. The latter, to ensure that the development is buildable, viable and attractive to future tenants, ensuring longevity and sustainability.
We look forward to seeing this building emerging on the ever-evolving skyline.
